.FR open to all French!

EuroDNS welcomes AFNIC’s opening of .FR domain names
to all French citizens outside France!

Luxembourg, April 14th, 2010 - EuroDNS is glad to support AFNIC’s opening of the .FR domain names to French citizens residing in a foreign country, lowering the geographical restrictions previously in place.
For years registration of a .FR Domain Name used to be possible only for French Companies and citizens with a valid address in France. Starting this month, French citizens no longer have to actually live in France to be able to acquire a .FR domain name for their e-mail addresses or web sites. While AFNIC does not require the interested individual to produce its passport before entering the Registration request, EuroDNS has been informed that random checks may occur following the registration where the individual will have to send a document confirming its French citizenship.
Xavier Buck, EuroDNS CEO, comments “This decision is a step in the right direction and should finally allow French citizens – whether in bordering countries such as Luxembourg or in the other side of the world – to express themselves with a domain name linked to their home country. Having worked for years towards the wide adoption of local domain names by individuals and companies, EuroDNS is proud to support this limited opening”
To celebrate this achievement, EuroDNS customers can now benefit from a discount on their .FR domain names registrations using the promocode FRABROAD.
It will take AFNIC another two years to finally accept registration of .FR from all individuals and structures located within the European Union, in 2012. Contrary to many Registries in the world, there are currently no plans to allow non-French individuals outside of Europe to register a .FR Domain Name.

.EU in the Spotlight !

EuroDNS announces a great .EU promotion for the coming months. Register today your .EU at http://www.eurodns.com/promo/9EU10 and get 50% discount.
By registering a .eu, the registrant can also get Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs). This means that anyone based in the European Union can register domain names containing non-Latin characters under the .eu domain.
About 3 Million .eu domain names have been registered since the launch of the extension in 1999. The advantages of having a .eu are numerous. The fact to belong to the European community, gathering 27 countries, is significant for businesses and also individuals wishing to implement themselves in Europe. Having a .eu is also having a strong European identity and opens more opportunities on both the business and social sides.
The arrival of the IDNs a few months ago has definitively been a great step forward and has allowed the existing 23 official languages and alphabets to be used and recognized as domain names.

IDNs are domain names that contain non-Latin characters. These characters include, for example, the Swedish å, the German ü, the Romanian ș, the Cyrillic й, Latin accents such as é and characters from the Bulgarian and Greek alphabets. The characters that will be supported can be found here: http://www.eurid.eu/en/eu-domain-names/idns-eu/supported-characters

"Dots for Your Trademarks"

Learn about the new Internet Extensions at ICT Spring 2010!
Luxembourg, March 2nd 2010 – Panelist on ICT Spring’s Intellectual Property workshop, EuroDNS will talk on “Dots for Your trademarks” to unveil the opportunities new Internet extensions represent for brand owners.

Over the years, EuroDNS has witnessed tremendous evolution of the Internet with the introduction of specific Top Level Domains (TLDs) such as .Info, .Mobi, and .Asia. The creation of these new extensions has helped companies gain more visibility and presence online and has made the search for specific products and services faster and more straightforward. This momentum will continue with the creation of new extensions, from special purposes ones, generic terms to brand names (ie: .Paris, .Berlin, .Music…).

Jean-Christophe Vignes, Executive Vice-President & General Counsel of DCL Group/EuroDNS, will present at ICT Spring and explains, “While the introduction of hundreds of new TLDs may be seen as a threat by brand owners, we believe the proper information is the only missing bit to allow companies to make the most of this huge opportunity”.

Indeed, new TLDs will give Trademarks immediate recognition on the Internet: a new URL shuch as ‘http://MyBrand’ is much more memorable than ‘http://www.myproduct.com’! So-called ‘dotBrand” TLDs will also give companies a way to control their own Internet space and distribute domain names to all subsidiaries, key entities…or even customers. It will definitively help companies protect their brands and gain even more visibility.

ICT Spring Europe is the first edition of a conference in Luxembourg oriented towards business technology and its latest evolutions, with a great focus on International players’ needs and expectations.

Scheduled right after the ICANN meeting in Nairobi, ICT Spring Europe is quite timely. Indeed 2010 should be the decisive year at the end of which all applications for new gTLDs should be submitted and reviewed. When this window closes, applicants may need to wait several years before having the opportunity to create their own extension. Therefore, companies should act now to benefit from this opportunity. With its corporate branch eBrand Services, EuroDNS, offers the necessary expertise and guidance every step of the way during the whole process.
